Go Home Guide
Type of Food? Your puppy will be eating Purina Pro Plan Puppy (Chicken & Rice Under 1 Year). Not the shredded blend. All of our puppies are free fed and are not on any sort of feeding schedule or amount. If you would like to switch your puppy's food to something different, let me know so I can be sure to send some to transition with. We recommend mixing the foods & gradually taking out the current food over 4-5 days. This will keep from causing an upset tummy in your puppy!

Trupanion Insurance- Each one of our puppies are sent home with 30 days of free insurance through Trupanion. There are no obligations and you do not have to continue this coverage after the 30 days is up. Failure to activate this offer within 24 hours from pick up will void warranty! Tap the box below to recieve your activation offer and learn more about what trupanion covers. I recommend activating the day prior to pick up as the coverage does begin once it is activated
NuVet Supplements - We start each puppy on NuVet supplements once they begin eating mush at 3 weeks old. These supplements are specially formulated to support a puppy's developing immune system, helping them stay strong and resilient during their early growth stages. Because puppies experience many changes - such as weaning, vaccinations and transitioning to a new home - having added immune support can make a big difference in how they adapt and thrive. These vitamins also have a lot of other great benefits including coat quality and supporting proper development. Your puppy will be getting the wafers by the time for pick up, if you plan to order NuVet, you will need to order the wafers. Each puppy gets 1 wafer 1 time a day. Feel free to visit the link below to learn more about NuVet and order your puppys vitamins
Trip Home Tips - Your puppy's immune system is still developing, which makes them especially vulnerable to illnesses like parvovirus during the early stage of life. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you do not place your puppy on the ground in public areas during your trip home. High traffic locations such as gas stations. rest stops, parking lots, and pet friendly stores can carry unseen risk from contaminated surfaces. Please also keep this in mind when you visit your vet's office! Your puppy will need to avoid high traffic areas and other dogs (unless you know they have been vaccinated) until they complete their full series of vaccines which is typically around 16 weeks of age. If you have a long drive home and feel that your puppy may need a potty break, we strongly suggest bringing some puppy pads for them to go on to keep from having to put them down on the ground.
What do I need to bring for the drive home?
-
Puppy pads
-
An old towel or blanket to lay puppy on (I say old just in case of car sickness)
-
Paper towels (car sickness is very common in puppies and always tends to happen at some point)
-
A carrier if you don't want to hold your puppy. (If we have to meet families, all of our puppies are held on the trip. They always tend to sleep and do fine with being held)
Warranty- Please take a moment to read over our warranty found under the warranty tab on the website. For this, I will also need a few pieces of information if you have not already provided them. I will need mailing and email address along with a good contact number. I will be emailing over a copy of this for you to sign a couple of days prior to pick up. There will be a copy for you in the go home folder. Also, don't forget to schedule your puppies first vet exam within 72 hours from pick up.
Snuggle Pup- A snuggle pup is a plush toy designed to reduce anxiety and calm puppies by simulating the presence of a littermate or mother. It has a "real feel heartbeat" and a heating pack to provide warmth and comfort. aiding with crate training and separation anxiety. If you would like to order one of these for your puppy and would like to have it mailed here for mom and littermates' scent, you are welcome to do so if time allows. Let me know and ill provide an address where you can send to. Please add yours or your puppies name either on the shipping label or at checkout. Below is a link to order
Here are just a few things & tips that I think may be helpful:
Live in an apartment complex? If you live in an apartment complex, please keep in mind that your puppy does not need to go to the public potty area for all of the dogs in the complex until they complete all their vaccines! To keep from having to go there, I suggest buying a piece of artificial turf to put out on your balcony if you have one. They have cheap & smaller pieces on amazon. Or if you do not have a balcony, puppy pads may be your best friend until your puppy is around 4 months old.
For collar & harness reference, your puppy will likely be around 12-15 pounds at pick up with a neck size usually around 12 inches. I would start out with a harness rather than a collar until your puppy figures out how to walk on a leash. If you plan to order a crate, I would just go ahead and get the XL if you have the space because they will be 50-60 pounds quick lol. If you are planning to crate train, please remember they are not familiar with any type of crate, and this will probably be a little rough until they adjust. I recommend always leaving them something with your scent on it and something to keep them entertained.
Potty training tips - Your puppy will be 90 percent potty trained to a doggie door at pick up (keep in mind, it may take them a bit to catch on in a new place). If you have a fenced in back yard, these are great but if you don't, don't worry, they catch on to things quickly! Just remember, consistency is key.
-
Take your puppy out first thing in the morning, after every meal, after naps. after playtime and before bedtime. Young puppies need to go out at least every 1 hour
-
Take them to the same spot every time. Sit them down and make sure you tell them "Go potty" "potty" etc.
-
Always praise & reward them! Take a small treat out with you to reward with
-
Make sure you are taking their water up about an hour prior to bedtime to keep from accidents during the middle of the night. They will need 1-2 potty breaks during the night.
-
Keep feedings consistent - this helps regulate their potty schedule. Make sure you are feeding at the same time each day
Accidents will happen and it is important to make sure you handle them correctly!
-
Don't punish your puppy
-
If you catch them in the act, calmly say "no" and take them outside
-
If you find it after the fact, just clean it up -- don't scold
Signs your puppy needs to go potty:
-
Sniffing the gruond
-
Circling
-
Whining
-
Suddenly wandering off
Please keep in mind that the first few days at home are a big transition for your new puppy. They have just left everything they've ever known so it's very important to keep this time calm, quiet, and low - stress. We recommend not overwhelming your puppy during this adjustment period.
What to avoid:
-
Large gatherings or lots of visitors
-
Taking your puppy into crowded public places
-
Pet stores, parks, or high traffic areas
-
Passig your puppy around to multiple people
Things to focus on:
-
A calm, quiet environment
-
Bonding with immediate family members
-
Establishing a routine (feeding, potty breaks, sleep)
-
Giving your puppy time to rest and feel safe. (it is very important to let your puppy sleep. If they're sleeping, don't wake them)
